 The majority of the City of Mansfield is located in southeast Tarrant County, just south of Arlington. However, in recent years as the city has increased its population to over 50,000 residents, it has begun to overlap small portions of Johnson and Ellis Counties as well. Once a rural community supported by agriculture, Mansfield has grown into a prosperous suburban city dotted with homes, commercial centers and light industrial complexes. In 2007, CNN Money Magazine ranked Mansfield number 83 out of the top 100 places to live in the United States. The majority of the students in Mansfield attend schools in the Mansfield Independent School District. The MISD currently consists of 39 schools, including four high schools and six middle schools. Students living in the Ellis County portion of Mansfield attend campuses provided by the Midlothian Independent School District. On the college level, Mansfield residents have nearby access to The Tarrant County Junior College and The University of Texas at Arlington, both of which offer excellent secondary programs.
